What to Wear to a Greek Island Wedding?

On Friday I’m heading to the Greek island of Santorini. One of my boyfriend’s oldest friends from school is getting married, and they’re opting for an early October wedding to make the most of the late summer sun.

Having had a quick gander at the weather (26 degrees!) I suddenly panicked as I realised I had nothing warm weather appropriate. I’ve never attended an overseas wedding before, and certainly not in anything approaching 26 degrees.

With only two days before the wedding and with no time to go shopping, I did the online equivalent of a trolley dash around ASOS and came up with three beauties as options. Whilst I won’t keep all of them I might opt to keep two so I have one as a back up – just in case!

The hard part will be picking which dress to send back! The first option is a stunning bandeau ASOS maxi dress. I opted for burgundy as nude dresses tend to wash me out and I felt navy was a little too wintery for 25 degrees and sunshine. I can add a lace kimono over the top to keep it church appropriate, and I would probably team it with nude heels for ease.

The next option is this gorgeous ASOS Wedding tea dress. I love the neckline on this dress and think it’s really flattering, and the fluttery sleeves look really flattering. I think this will probably be the most comfortable option too. Perfect for a long day of dancing, dinner and drinks!

The final option is a bit of a show stopper: this amazing maxi dress in red. With a fishtail hem, and cut close to the body, this is probably the most glamorous of the three. It might not be 100% comfortable for a full day in the Greek sun (and with a meal!), but I could seriously see myself wearing this for the family & friends dinner the happy couple are hosting the night before the wedding. If I can get away with not wearing heels I could see these Aldo sandals or these lovely woven tan ballet flats pairing beautifully with this dress.

Choices, choices. Let me know your favorites in the comments!

July: The Lust List

I’ve got a seriously spendy couple of months up ahead. When August finally rocks up (looks out of window at rain, looks to camera) I’ve already got a busy event calendar lined up, and some more work travel towards the end of the month too. I’m also counting down the days to my next travel adventure (Italy in September, can’t WAIT), but with all the fun and excitement of a holiday countdown comes the financial burden too.

That in mind I’ve been trying to stick to window shopping instead for the time being. Well, at least until payday… I’m only human after all!

Below is my current lust list – I’ve tried to broaden my horizons by checking out new sites like Atterley, Cos and the Finery. Looking at my picks I’m obviously loving blue and red tones, statement prints and loose shapes right now. Some of these are a bit more autumnal in feeling which is probably more in tune with the British summertime…

The Danger of the ASOS ‘Save For Later’ List…

I’ve taken to doing a rather dangerous thing on my morning commute these days. The South-East London train line is a little like the trek to Mordor – long, cramped and with far too many Gollum lookalikes for my liking. The only way I’ve recently been dealing with it is to frantically browse ASOS, compiling a wish-list my credit card company can only dream of approving.

Most of it is inspired by the recent stretch of warm weather London’s been experiencing – check out this sunshine-y snap of London for proof. No filter required.

Some of the selection below I’m going to leave as ‘GREAT BIG BLOODY BIRTHDAY HINTS’ to my loved ones as it’s my birthday at the end of May, but others are purely theoretical. I’m not sure how I’d actually pull off a drop-waisted midi dress without looking like I’d worn a black bin-liner, however my inner style guru can dream.

Anyway, here’s my latest shopping list below – and a quick note – Mum, I’d love any of these, OKAY THANKS LOVE YOU BYE.

Asymmetric dress. Aztec Jacket. V Neck Floral dress.

Spring-ing Into Action

So it’s that time of year again and all the major retailers are clearing the rails of last winter’s dregs in order to make space for some sharp spring threads. I had a big spring clean of my wardrobe last weekend as some of my clothes were looking quite shabby and nobody really needs four identical black nylon Primark jumpers (nice I know).
I filled up three big carrier bags for the charity shop and put some of my nicer cast offs on eBay. The last time I did that I managed to raise £70 which was put towards promptly filling my wardrobe up again!
With a now fairly large gap in my wardrobe, I’m definitely looking to fill it up with some fresher pieces, new shapes and more spring-friendly colours.
I’ve laid out my wish list below:

I made a promise to myself I’d steer clear of black. After throwing out a huge amount of black, grey and brown items of clothing, I realised I had apparently amassed the wardrobe of an 80 year old rural-living man.
I’m pretty happy with my picks above – I think there’s a good mix of fresh colours for Spring and some new styles to try out. We’ll have to see how well the eBaying goes before I hit ‘purchase’ on this lot though…

Q&A | Liebster Award |Nominees

I’ve been a bad blogger this week! After having a bumper week of posting recently, this week has seen me bogged down with a very heavy workload. It’s late on Saturday afternoon and the only productive thing I’ve done is nap. Oh well.

I was tagged by the lovely Anna to take part in the Liebster Award, which is a fab way for bloggers to get to know each other and spread a little bit of blogging love.

And so, to spread the love by recapping the rules..

  1. Thank/link the person who nominated you
  2. Answer the questions from your nominator
  3. Nominate your chosen bloggers who have less than 200 followers (and link them)
  4. Create 11 new questions for your nominees
  5. Notify your nominees through social media/blogs

Here are my answers:

  • What’s your favourite beauty product?

This changes ALL the time, but right now probably the Label M Brunette Dry Shampoo. It’s really good for adding texture to just-washed hair, particularly if your hair is like mine and can get a little flat.

  • Where is your favourite place to shop?

For beauty shopping, probably Liberty’s as their beauty hall is a dream. For fashion, either Warehouse or Whistles, depending on how far away from pay day we are…

  • What book did you last read?

I just re-read the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. They’re about a supernatural department of the Metropolitan Police Force. Sounds bizarre (and it is), but it’s also quite addictive.

  • Where is your favourite holiday destination?

I’m off to Mexico in just over three weeks so right now I’m daydreaming about white sandy beaches and non-stop margaritas.

  • What is your hobby away from blogging?

Cooking! And to that end, eating.

  • If you could spend a year anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Rome. Sunshine, pasta and the Spanish Steps. What more could a girl want?

  • Where do you live?

South East London – the very best corner of London.

  • Do you have a pet?

No! But I wish I had a pug. Sadly my job means I’d have to either get a dogsitter or leave the poor pup alone for 8 hours at a time which just isn’t feasible.

  • Favourite part of being a blogger?

Having my own little corner of the internet to ramble to myself basically. And recording all the exciting things I do on the weekend to cheer myself up during the week!

  • What lipstick are you wearing right now?

Right now, it’s Lipstick Queen’s Saint Lipstick lipstick in Bright Rose.

  • What is your aim for 2015?

In blogging, 500 followers would be a dream. And I’d like to do a bit more travelling – in particular, to go back to Rome.

My nominations are:

Charlotte Rose

Kirsty Leigh

My questions are:

1. What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

2. What do you hope to achieve in 2015?

3. What’s your favourite food?

4. What keeps you motivated to blog?

5. What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday?

6. High heels or flats?

7. What can’t you leave the house without?

8. What’s your favourite haircare product?

9. What’s the last book you read?

10. Favourite place you’ve ever visited?

11. Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Go check out my nominees – I follow all these ladies on BlogLovin (cheeky plug below to follow me there as well!) and they’re well worth a read.

Happy Saturday folks!
